why I finally started using a smartwatch: a Garmin vivomove HR review.

Any of you who have been reading this blog for a long time, know that I used to wear a watch religiously.  I had a white watch years ago that I wore so much it became one of my signature pieces.  And then it broke.  Whomp, whomp.  I’ve been kind of off and on with wearing watches ever since.

Then came the smart watch, and I was intrigued by the idea.  In fact, I’ve been interested in getting a smartwatch for years, but one thing always held me back.  The styling.

To me the main motivation in wearing a smartwatch is to wear it all the time, so I can track my steps, heart rate during exercise, and keep better track of my health and wellness, all from the convenience of my wrist.

The problem is, to me most smart watches look a little too techy, and being as selective as I am about my accessories, I just knew I wouldn’t wear a techy watch enough to make it worth it’s cost.  I want to wear a watch that looks like a beautiful watch (extra large face, please and thank you), but has all the functionality of a smart watch.

Enter the Garmin vivomove HR.

The vivomove HR is a stylish hybrid smartwatch.  It has all the capabilities of a smartwatch with a hidden touchscreen, but it looks like a classic on trend time piece (watch hands and all).  I got it in white (no surprise there) with a silicone band-great for working out- and a rose gold face, and you guys, I am OBSESSED.

Here’s what I love about my new Garmin vivomove HR.

First of all, it’s gorgeous.  As a designer and stylist, aesthetic is really important to me.  This watch is beautiful. (It comes in a bunch of really pretty colors, and you can see them all here.)

It has a big face.  I love a good chunky watch face, the bigger the better.  I think it makes your wrist look daintier and makes a statement.  The vivomove HR has a nice big face.

It’s light weight.  I hate anything cumbersome when it comes to jewelry.  Even though the face is large its a nice lightweight watch.

The smart features are legit.  I can literally track my steps, workouts, heart rate, and stress, the weather, my texts, emails, and social notifications, and I can even accept or reject calls and control my music from my wrist.  Yesssss…

The smart screen is discreet.  You would literally never know its a smart watch by looking at it, but a quick twist of the wrist or a double tap and the screen pops up.

What I love most about it, is that it helps me stay accountable to my wellness goals.  It makes it really easy to keep track of my steps, and it syncs with the MyFitnessPal app, so it’s easy to keep track of my calories in/calories out.  Also, it sends me prompts to move every once in awhile if I’ve been sitting still for too long; a really nice feature when you work from a computer!  Personal wellness is a huge priority for me this year, and I feel like my Garmin vivomove HR has really helped me take it to the next level, and for $199 it’s at a really approachable price point for a smartwatch.

There you have it!  My review of the Garmin vivomove HR.  If you are interested in trying a smartwatch, and want one where the design is on point, I highly recommend this one.

That’s one of the reasons why I was hesitant about smart watches – they look too tech! But this Garmin one looks so chic and actually looks like one of my watches! This is something that can get me to want to wear smart watches!
