On this beautiful Memorial Day,
I want to send my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have served and died protecting our nation and guarding our freedom.
To both mine and my husband’s grandfathers, uncles, and cousins, who have served and fought for us. To my friend who was killed fighting in Iraq in 2005. To all those who have served or now serve. To the families who have lost a loved one:
I could never hope to thank you sufficiently.
But I hope I express my gratitude best by not wasting the gift that was given me, and I try with my whole heart to live a life that honors your sacrifice.
Thank you.
Great tribute to the fallen. I too have over 200 years of service in my family alone combined. With that in mind, please understand that Memorial Day is ONLY for those who fought and died WHILST serving or soon after as a result of serving. My friend’s son also died in Iraq serving. His parents communicate this distinction every year. The veterans affairs website also communicate that they believe end of May was chosen because that was when most likely flowers would be in bloom. For those who lived after serving, that is what Veterans Day honors. And for those still serving, that is what Armed Forces Day honors.
