recipe for a perfect snow day.

Maybe it’s because I was born in January, and I know this isn’t a popular opinion, but I love winter.  I love wearing coats and boots, and layers!  I love snow, I love sledding, skiing, ice skating, I love it all.  Especially a snow day.  Give me a cozy day indoors and I am a happy camper.

I know not everyone feels this way about winter, so I thought I would share my recipe for a perfect snow day, or basically how to embrace and enjoys time indoors for the next few months without getting cabin fever.

1. Create cozy spaces. I love to fill the living spaces of our home with fluffy throw pillows, and soft sherpa blankets so it’s easy in any given spot to curl up with a good book or watch a fun movie.  It makes our spaces feel lovely and homey, not stuffy and depressing.

2. A good book.  I’m a reader and reading gives me an immense amount of pleasure, especially during the winter months, when being inside a lot offers the perfect opportunity to get lost in a book.  Here are some of my favorites: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Pride and Prejudice. Jane Eyre. Anything by Kate Morton.  The Secret Life of Bees. Anne of Green Gables. The Help.

3. Cozy clothes.  When you are indoors all day because of the weather, wearing something cozy and comfortable can make it feel like a luxury.  Plush sherpa pullovers, some great slippers, and soft as butter joggers can make the day feel comfortable and cozy.

4. A cup of cocoa.  I have at least one a day through the winter months, with whipped cream please. ;-) Pick out a cut mug and it feels like a mini vacation.

5. A pot of soup simmering.  Soup and a snow day go together like peanut butter and jelly.  I make a lot of soup this time of year and I love that most of the time you can throw it in the crockpot and forget about it all day.  (If you have a favorite soup recipe, share it in the comments!)

6. Fresh baked bread.  Perfect for your soup!  Nothing says comfort like homemade bread.  I have an amazing French bread recipe here, and I plan to learn how to make sourdough this month! (I’ll keep you posted!)

I hope these ideas help you make the most of your time indoors this winter, and if you have a recipe for a perfect snow day, share below!
