This year’s fall porch isn’t all that different than last year’s but since I grow my own pumpkins, I like to document it all the same. I get such joy from watching my pumpkin patch come to life over the summer, and wondering what I’ll end up harvesting in the fall.
The fun thing about growing my own pumpkins, is that I never quite know which seeds I plant will take off. I planted quite a few pink fairytale pumpkin mounds this year, but only harvested one pink pumpkin from my patch… My green pumpkins, however were quite prolific and grew big and fat. I love how Mother Nature gets to decide what my porch will look like each, this year she was in a very monochromatic green mood, and I have to say, I kind of dig it.
Ava and Carter helped me arrange the porch this year, mostly because my 7-month pregnant bump has made lifting the bigger pumpkins rather tricky/impossible. But I kind of love it even more, because most of the arranging came from their heads and didn’t they do such a great job?
I discovered over the last couple years how much I love a sort of natural pumpkins tumbling down the steps look. Our home and property are a little wild, a little quirky, and perfectly imperfect and I like to honor that when I am creating the different pockets of our home, whether its a bookcase or a fall porch.
I like to keep the leaves un-raked around the door, stack the pumpkins all cozy next to each other and tuck a few pots of mums in there as well for some warm fall color. I put together our fall wreath this year, and had a lot of fun doing it. I’m so glad this happy fall scene gets to grace our little black door until Christmastime.
Do you decorate for the fall? What does your porch look like?
