There are things I do every morning that have a massive impact on my days going well, my mental health, and my productivity. Exercising, getting dressed, etc. But the very first thing I do every single morning is make my bed. I don’t know what it is about that little less than 5 minute process, but sometime between rumpled bed linens and crisp hospital corners, I feel like I’ve got my life put together. And that teeny little action vastly improves my day, and there is nothing better than climbing into a beautifully made bed at night. I’ve heard people are either bed-makers or not, and I’ve always been a bed maker. If you aren’t, consider this your invitation to start, if for no other reason than at the end of the day you get to rest your weary head on a beautifully made, fluffy bed. You deserve that!
So here are my tips for making a bed worthy of you:
Start with good bedding.
My first tip is to start with good bedding. Bedding that washes well, and sleeps beautifully. You’ve got to build on a firm foundation, and when it comes to making your bed, that means, the bedding. We started sleeping on Boll and Branch sheets over a year ago, and I will never go back. I swear, these are the best sheets in the world and they get softer with every wash. They are an investment, but since you spend 1/3 of your life sleeping, I consider them a worthy one. I’ve now switched all of our bedding (sheets, quilts, duvets, etc.) to Boll and Branch because I realized I was sleeping exponentially better with better bedding and B&B is the best.
I switched to Boll and Branch’s linen duvet this summer and I am smitten. I’ve always loved linen as a summer fabric, but I adore how it’s transformed our bedroom, and added so much character to the bed. Plus it is so comfortable to sleep with. I’m going to love this duvet for years to come…

Steam your bedding on the bed.
I’m thoroughly convinced that it is impossible to wash and dry bedding without it coming out of the dryer looking like a hot wrinkly mess. Major bummer if you’re trying to make a beautiful bed, but I always dread trying to get those wrinkles out, because ironing that much fabric takes forever, and it’s cumbersome on an ironing board. I’ve discovered a much easier way to get wrinkles out of bedding is to put the bedding on the bed and use a steamer or steam setting on the iron to get them out. It takes a fraction of the time and works a lot better.
Here are some great options steamers and my favorite iron:
Fluff your bedding every morning.
I think that beds should look soft and inviting, which to me means they need to be fluffy. Introduce a little air back into your bedding and pillows every morning and it will transform your bed. The easiest way I’ve found to fluff my duvet is to toss it up in the air by the corners. Two to three tosses and it’s ready to go. For my pillows I drop them on the bed or floor and then give them a little punch on the sides and they’re ready to go!
I hope these tips help inspire you to make the bed every morning and realize that you are worth having a nice bed to come back to every night.
