Winter is my favorite time of year to be in my bedroom. Something about the cold days and the early sunsets, makes me want to snuggle up in bed with a good book. I like to work extra hard at making our spaces nice cozy places to be, especially in the winter months since we spend so much time indoors. Here’s how I create a cozy winter bedroom.
Clean up any clutter.
First up I clean up any clutter and dejunk my space. Things have a way of accumulating over the months of summer and fall when we’re busy running here and there, and outside all the time, but there’s nothing worse than being cooped up with a mess. Clearing the clutter, getting rid of things that aren’t serving me anymore, and tidying up my space instantly makes it feel more cozy.
Make a moody layered winter bed.
Call me George Bailey, because we live in a drafty old house… the best way to stay cozy in the winter is to create a lovely layered winter bed. I switched all my bedding to this deep gray/blue color over the summer and I’ve loved the moody monochromatic feel. For my winter bed, I’m layering Boll and Branch’s signature sheets in the color mineral, with their heritage quilt (now available in this deep moody shade!) and linen duvet. The whole bed feels soft and cozy, and keeps me nice and warm without making me too hot at night. You can use the code: CORI25 for 25% off your Boll and Branch order this month.
Change the artwork.
I’ve never changed what’s on my walls before but this year I thought it would be fun to switch out my art to something wintery and it instantly made the space feel more cozy. You can find my art here.
Warm lightbulbs.
The natural light this time of year can often feel so cold and dark so I like to switch to warm soft white lightbulbs. It makes the house feel warmer and less dark during this season, and really cozies up our bedroom. I like bulbs with 2700 Kelvins and 400-800 lumens. These are my favorite bulbs.
Keep a favorite book handy.
I love revisiting my favorite books this time of year, and always keep a cozy classic handy on my nightstand during the winter months, so I can drift off to sleep with the voices of Jo and Laurie in my head… Little Women is obviously a go-to, but you can find a bunch more of my favorites right here.
If novels aren’t your thing consider adding a great design book to peruse on the dark evenings before drifting off to sleep. Find some great options right here.
Add a candle.
I have a candle burning on my kitchen counter year round but I love adding one to my nightstand in the winter. There’s nothing more hygge than the flicker of candle light and I find it really relaxes me in the evening to have a candle burning. I have found that the Opalhouse line at Target has some really nice scents and they’re also a great price.
