Do I look tired?  If I do it’s because I am.  My baby’s been sick for the last several days.  (Since Christmas eve to be exact) and while she feels mostly fine during the day, that cough starts acting up terribly at night, and let’s just say my husband and I haven’t had a lot of sleep since Christmas.

Why-oh-why do coughs get so much worse at night?

It’s so cruel.

I was sick too by the way, but not terribly. (Plus I’m a mom, so no such thing as a sick day.) My voice is just starting to come back enough for me to sound like a chain smoker to people who don’t know me… That’s always fun.

Anyway.

The joy of winter time.

Actually, the real joy of winter time (you know, besides Christmas, and snow, and skiing, ice skating, cozy afternoons by the fireplace and lots of hot chocolate) is layers.

All the layers my little wool loving heart desires.

And layers of the long coats, thick tights, wool skirts, flannel shirts, pom beanie variety are some of my very favorites…

What are yours?

It’s probably silly of me to suggest this, since you have 4 kids and I only have 1 (so you probably know a lot more than I do), but when my daughter gets a cough at night I roll up some blankets and put them under one end of her crib mattress (the end where her head goes). Elevating her head/chest seems to make the coughing a lot better. This may be more difficult to accomplish if your daughter is in a big bed, though. I have also gotten up and given her a spoonful of honey in the middle of the night, which seems to help suppress coughs. Hope she feels better!
