I asked Tara to guest post today, while I continue to recover (aka cuddle and coo over my new little). Tara is one of my most favorite bloggers and is a master at mixing colors and patterns. I have loved her blog since I found it, and she’s a constant source of inspiration. Plus she’s a Special Ed teacher, which makes me adore her even more…
Hi everyone! I’m Tara, a Special Education teacher from NJ, and I blog over at Mix and Match Fashion. Cori asked me to talk a little bit about mixing colors and patterns, which happen to be two of my favorite things when it comes to my wardrobe.
One random place that I get my color inspiration from is sports teams. I‘m a huge New York Knicks and Mets fan, so I love combining shades of blue and orange. This is an outfit I wore on a cooler day in the summer, but could also work for a warmer fall day.
In the fall, I love combining jewel tones. To help break up the bold blocks of color in this outfit, I went with a white striped blouse. The white helps tone down the blue and yellow, while the stripes add visual interest.
Two of my favorite patterns to mix are stripes and floral. I find that pattern mixing is a lot of trial and error….a lot of times something that looked great in my head does not translate in real life. I have to play around with combinations to find something that works.
I was drawn to this colorblock cardigan the moment I saw it on the J Crew website. I actually ended up purchasing the cardigan and polka dot blouse at the same time, fully intending to wear them together. I like that the polka dots on this blouse are a lighter color and not too bold, which makes it work well with the bright colors of the sweater.
Thank you so much Cori for allowing me to take over for the day!
I just LOVE Tara’s style! She’s so chic and provides so much inspiration!
