everything I did yesterday.

Pants: Banana Republic (thrifted).  Blouse: Express (old). Jacket/ Scarf/Necklace: The Loft.  Bag: Ross.

Have you ever noticed that when bloggers say they want to be authentic or real with you it’s only to tell you something really hard/sad/ horrible about their life?  Now, I’m all about honesty and authenticity, but I don’t think that it always has to mean bad news either.

So here’s the truth about my day yesterday.

A completely average day, where nothing all that exciting happened, but everyone was happy.

-I woke up 3 hours later than usual.  Heavenly.

-Fed the littles breakfast, and everyone wanted something different.  I was feeling nice so I obliged.  Usually it’s a no, I’m not a restaurant. So Carter had cold cereal, and a scrambled egg on toast.  Hannah got a fried egg on toast. Ethan wanted plain Cherrios with honey on top (that’s different than honey-nut Cherrios) and a piece of cinnamon toast.  They all got hot cocoa.  Hannah and Carter wanted whipped cream, Ethan did not.

-Spent a large portion of the day trying to get a hold of someone only to realize about 2pm that it was President’s day, and they probably weren’t working.

-Mopped up toilet water that had flooded  all over the hard-wood floor.  Ethan’s still trying to figure out this whole “wiping his own bum thing.”

-Sterilized the wood floor, post poo water.

-Did a load of about 15 towels from mopping up the poo water.

-Wrote a blog post.

-Did the dishes.

-Swept the floor in the kitchen times 3. (the littles spill a lot when they eat)

-Helped Carter “fix” his tent after he broke it when he insisted that he could put it together all by himself.  (this involved packing tape lashed around the broken part)

-Nagged the littles into getting their beds made, rooms cleaned, baths taken, dressed, teeth brushed, etc. etc.

-Did all those things myself (sans nagging)

-Fed the littles lunch.  They wanted egg salad sandwiches.

-I ate lunch standing at the counter. (pretty much daily)

-Folded approximately 7,000 loads of laundry.  Acted like a Nazi and made the littles help me do it.(they secretly enjoy it I’m sure.)

-Texted my sister in between busy moments.

-Talked to Mr. on the phone while he drove home from work.

-Did the happy dance when he walked through the door. (insert smooching)

-Packed all five of us into the Pilot.  Went to Redbox to rent a movie.  Drove to Joann’s so I could pick up stuff for the baby shower I’m doing this weekend.  Dropped into the grocery store for a few odds and ends.  Stopped at the post office to mail a letter, then back home.

-Made dinner: BBQ chicken sandwiches on the ciabatta bread, steamed sweet potatoes with sea salt and applesauce.  We ate around 7pm.

-Mr. fixed the tent the right way.  Yet another reason I love living with a man.

-Made candied popcorn “for the littles” ate my fair share myself.  Um, so good.

-Found some recipes online whilst the littles dressed for bed and cleaned their rooms, yet again.

-Read scriptures as a family, said prayers, and tucked the littles into bed. (They were having a “sleep over” on the boys bunk bed. Which just means Hannah slept in there too.)

-Went back in 10 minutes later when I heard them making noise.  Turns out it was just Carter singing his “baby” song to the other two so they could fall asleep. (can you die from cuteness?)

-Sang to the littles (per their request)

-Finally sat down on the floor of the loft to watch my movie, (Water for Elephants, so good.) and cut out baby shower decorations while I watched.

-Mr. fell asleep on the couch behind me.

-Finished the movie, curled up next to him and fell asleep too.

Some days, it’s just average,

but I love my life.

haha, I don’t know about that, it might be pretty boring. ;-) But in all seriousness, the day I learned to see all the beauty in the everyday average parts of life was the day when life suddenly felt wonderful and amazing.

I know, poor kid. He felt so bad. And I was so pleasantly surprised by that movie, and by Robert Pattinson’s acting! He’s actually a good actor. You never would have known it from Twilight…

  10. It’s nice to not get a super depressing story sometimes and just hear how everyone’s average days almost sound the same except some have children, some don’t yet, some work some don’t. Anywho, just refreshing! Thanx for sharing!

  13. Love this post. So real. Love being a momma. My neighbor, who works full time and puts her one year old in day care and is pregnant with her second, was telling me that she will probably be a stayathomemom when her second comes, but that she is worried about how she will fill her time. I laughed and told her not to worry, she will be busy.
