ahoy.

Skirt: made by me (buy here.) Sweater: Downeast Basics.  Ruffle Blouse: The Loft.  Shoes: Thrifted.  Necklace: NY&Co.

I’m thoroughly convinced that there’s nothing in my closet I love more than my pleated awning skirt.  But really it’s not surprising, given my love for anything crisp, striped or nautical.

And this baby’s got all three covered.

I’ve made so many of these skirts now, but every time I finish one, run the iron carefully over the stripes and press the pleats into place, I get so excited.

What can I say, stripes excite me.

Then I send it off in a package to it’s new home with a little salute and imagine just how fabulous each girl is going to look in it.

I wonder if they’ll feel like I feel when I wear it.  Like I’m standing on the helm of a boat, sails full, wind in my hair, pleats dancing and whipping around my legs.

I have an active imagination.

But this brings me to my next point.

I’m not really that into material stuff.  I don’t get the point of a ten thousand square foot house, if I could have any car in the world it would probably be a Honda Civic (I know-old high school fantasy), and I don’t really care about expensive jewelry.

But if I am ever rich, the first thing I’m going to do is buy a sailboat.

And it will be blue and white.

And I’ll stand at the ship’s wheel, sailing my boat.

Whilst wearing my pleated skirt.

Wind in my hair, pleats dancing around in the breeze.

Until then, just wearing my skirt is a good alternative.  At least I think so.

Want one of your own?

I’m posting a few more in the shop today.

Ahoy.

  1. Okay, I usually pine over your outfits every single day, but you have taken today’s ensemble to a different level! I’m obsessed! I just might have to get my very own pleated skirt from you soon. You reassure me that I can still look tall at 4’10” with a long-ish skirt! :)

  3. I LOVE this skirt! And I love the lime green with the black. I’m trying to decide if the saying ‘It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission’ will apply if my husband finds out how much they are!

I have one word for you, practice. That’s how. I’ve ironed more pleats than I can even say…

  14. I just adore my skirt!!! Can you tell me if you just iron it or do you use starch when ironing…my pleats don’t seem to look as crisp as yours. I have to admit I am terrified to iron it because I burn everything lol

I’m so glad you love it! I don’t use starch. I use a high heat setting cotton/linen and I use steam and a spray bottle. This fabric is seriously super fabric. You can use a lot of heat without damaging it.

Terri G — I think the skirts are now $85 — if you can’t snag one, maybe you could have a seamstress make one that is similar?? I agree, they are adorable!
