no longer a prop.

Chambray shirt: H&M. Jeggings: Forever21.  Boots: Target.  Belt: Mr.’s.  Scarf: Old Navy.  Earrings: Payless??

A few random thoughts for you on this lovely Wednesday morning.

My middle child turns 6 tomorrow.  SIX.  And that’s not even my oldest.  Does having two kids over six make me old?  Don’t answer that.

This umbrella is no longer a prop.  And I mean, it really wasn’t a prop when I walked out of Target yesterday and there was a torrential downpour.

My naturally curly hair won’t hold a curl when I try to curl it with a curling iron.  Does this just seem wrong to anyone else?  You know what it holds really well?  Frizz.  My hair is so good at holding that frizz…

I should really just break down and go get some sort of keratin treatment done to my hair, but I’m cheap.  Mr. says I’m selectively cheap.  He’s right, I am.  I’m also terrified to try a new stylist.  I’ve had about 10 bad hair-cuts to many and I don’t want to make it 11.

Yes, I am perfectly aware that my belt and boots do not match.  I’m also perfectly aware that I love this belt of Mr.’s that I keep stealing.  Men’s belts are hot.

I sort of forgot how jeggings are like a second skin.  Holy tight.

I took miss Hannah with me yesterday to go birthday shopping for Mr. Carter’s birthday.  She was so excited to help me pick out all his stuff.  She also helped him write his birthday list in her little perfectly imperfect 2nd grader hand-writing; which is just dreamy.  It was so fun watching her joy in doing something for someone else with nothing in it for her.  My kids love each other; I must be doing something right.

The worst thing about the fact that it has rained almost non-stop for the past week and a half, is I have no idea how to dress in the rain.  All my Arizona “cold-weather” gear, is like a joke here… The best parts: it makes every.single.day. so cozy, everything smells divine, it’s a real fall(!) haven’t had one of those in years, and my kids walk around in rain boot wherever we go.  Rain boots on children= cutest thing ever.

I know it’s going to be doing this all winter.

I say, bring it on Seattle.

Come what may, and love it.

  2. Yesterday was crazy rain for sure! I do love those boots…I think the hard thing for me is figuring out how to stay cute and stylish while feeling like the weather is so cozy. I mean, I don’t want to take the downward spiral into frumpy. This will be my first winter in the Seattle area too, wondering if I’ll end up with rain boots.

  6. You are so adorable and I cannot agree with you more on so many aspects of this post. First of all, my middle child is 6 also! In fact, 6 1/2. Happy birthday to your middle one!!! I don’t think this makes us old, it makes us distinguished (or at least I like to think so) ;-). Also, my hair is curly too and it is so crazy that mine can’t hold a curl either! I feel cursed with my hair, but yours always looks fantastic!

  7. My naturally curly hair also doesn’t not hold curl from a curling iron (how many times can I get the word “curl” before one period?).

I had the cold process Keratin treatments done a couple times – they fade out after 3-6 months depending on the shampoo you use/how often you wash. I recently had the hot process done… BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR MY HAIR. EVER. I no longer have frizz. At. all. It’s amazing. I highly recommend it. My mixed curl hair (frizzy/kinky/bouncy/wavy) is all soft and smooth, and my curls are a lot more similar now.

Just make sure you shop around for the best salon… and make sure it is a keratin treatment without any sort of formaldehyde in it (AKA: Brazilian blow outs, Coppola treatments). That stuff is bad for you and your hair stylist. :(

You are as cute as a button, AND I love your polka dot umbrella!

PS – my naturally super curly hair won’t hold curling iron curl either. I’ll never understand.

Happy birthday to your little kid! Arrgh my hair is just like yours, but lately it has lost its ‘natural curl’ due to great usage of a hair straightener.

Cute and classic outfit! Love the boots. :)
I had two Brazilian Blowouts done, LOVED them. Hair was silky, no frizz and flyaways. Also, the treatment for some reason lasted way longer than it’s supposed to. But then I figured out that even the one touted as formaldehyde free still has the chemical, and it’s way beyond my budget right now.
So it’s back to the flat iron for me … but you might look into trying Kerastase’s oleo-relax cream. It IS pricey, but I think it’s worth it. Just a dollop and a few minutes with my cheapie flat iron give me great results (and I have very thick hair).

My kids get more excited for each other’s birthdays than they do fo their own sometimes too. I love that about siblings. Your kids are wonderful. How nice you can wear your hubby’s stuff. Mine is way too big for me to do that, even though I still try… You look great in those tight jeggings by the way, girly! Way great!

I have naturally curly/unruly hair too. I am also cheap and didn’t want to spring for a keratin treatment. I used the Organix 30 day straight treatment and let me tell you, it’s a huge difference. It even last longer than 30 days because I don’t wash every day. You should really try it, it’s amazing… and easy… and cheap.

You look so cozy– I love it! I’m so jealous of your chambray shirt. I’ve yet to find one that I love, but I’ve been searching for months. And who cares if your belt and boots don’t match. They’re both neutrals, so it works, right?

Happy birthday to your little boy! (Six is still little and cute!)

I feel so validated that I’m not the only one with naturally curly that does not hold a curl with the curling iron…I always thought it was just me.

I love the outfit too, and I can personally say from experience that having kids over 6 does not make you old. They keep getting older, their mothers do not! ;)

I’m always amazed at how put together you look, especially knowing that you’re chasing 3 children around.

Your hair looks amazing and not frizzy at all. Have you ever tried curling it with the straightening iron? There are some great tutorials on youtube and with your snazzy new straightener it might work really well. It’s a bit awkward at first but after some practice it gets easier.
