People are always so surprised when they ask me where I got this or that and I tell them that I made it myself. It makes me a little sad. Sewing is a dying art. I wish that more mothers taught their daughters how to sew, just as my mother did, just like her mother did before her. When I’m pushing down on the pedal, gently feeding the fabric through the machine, I feel connected to the women who came before me. Sewing is theraputic. It’s so methodical. Measure, cut, pin, iron, stitch, repeat. My life with my 3 little munchins and busy husband is so hecktic, creating something pretty is a lovely outlet. Plus it comes in really handy when you are super petite like me ’cause you can make your own clothes and they actually fit.
And yes, I prefer to sew all styled up in the pj’s sans bra. Please excuse the flat-chestedness. I have nursed three babies ladies.
*a mom-cave is like the man-cave, except for moms. Pretty, frilly, and totally devoted to escaping the craziness of motherhood and creating lovelies.

I actually use a pattern for a simple pencil skirt and then I alter it as I need to fit me and the shape I’m going for. You can get the pattern at Joann’s for way cheap. It’s the sew easy brand and they are like $3 or something crazy cheap like that.

Wow, that skirt looks awesome. I wish I knew how to sew. I have very (and I mean VERY) limited skills: fixing a button, fixing a seam that’s pulled apart, etc. You know, survival skills. My mom know how to sew a bit more and especially how to hem. I wish she would teach me, but she has no patience for teaching (which explains why I can’t cook either) and probably shudders at the thought of someone touching her beautiful antique Singer sewing machine.

I tried to learn to sew a couple of times and got so frustrated- I really wish I would have let my Mom teach me to when I was younger. What I CAN relate to is the boobage problem. I’ve only nursed one baby, but alas. It looks more like three over here.

That skirt is amazing! I agree with you, I really wish I could sew but I seriously can’t even sew on a button :( My mom unfrotunately didn’t have the tiem to teach me to sew and when I was growing up she had told me that the cost of material was more than buying the ready made clothes sometimes so it wasn’t worth it for her.

At first, when I read, “made by me baby” I thought you meant “made by my baby” and I was like, “huh… I thought her daughter was a lot younger than that” because I totally thought that was a picture of your daughter sewing. WOW. I need glasses.
i totally agree with your sewing philosophy. it’s one of the reasons i want to get better at it, so that i can teach my girls (assuming i have any). i LOVE your skirt, and i’m so inspired to get my machine out and start making things for spring!!

I love sewing, I’m just so lazy (i skip steps like “press seam open” lol)! My mom didn’t teach me, I just bought a cheap machine because I wanted to make my own babylegs and it went from there.
And kudos for nursing all your babies :D
