Sweater: Target. (love this one this one and this one.) Blouse: J Crew Factory (similar here  (on sale), love this one).  Jeans: Hudson. Necklace: JCrew (similar.) Ring: TJMaxx (similar.) Oxford Shoes: Payless.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always loved pairing navy and cobalt.  Such a nice monochromatic combination…   Anyways, I was thinking about what  I could possibly say about such a simple outfit as a pair of boot-cut jeans and a button-up with a jumper sweater.  And to be honest, not much, really.  Because this outfit isn’t all that groundbreaking.  I’m okay with that.  This is my magic formula outfit; this is that combo I go to when I’m running late, or I’m tired or stressed or just out of inspiration, but I still want to look and feel put together.  It’s an outfit formula that I always love and that always works for me, and that can be a lifesaver on those days when I just don’t have it creatively when it comes to getting dressed.  But what I love most about it, is how functional it is.  I can be crawling around on the floor with Ava, doing dishes, going out to dinner with my husband, or at a casual lunch meeting and in every situation I feel neither under or over-dressed.

A few things to consider:

Heels always make jeans a little dressier.  Oxfords make heels more functional (read:stable) because they tie on.  Plus they make you look taller, which (ahem) is a major benefit to me.

Boot-cut jeans flatter everyone.  They are always in style.  So buy yourself a really great pair.  Invest.  Have them tailored to fit you just right if necessary.  I guarantee your cost-per-wear will make it worth it.

Add a little bling.  A little statement necklace can go a long way towards finishing a look, and adding interest to a relatively simple ensemble.

Consider a classic cut with a quirky print.  Like this silk blouse with a chick print.  It literally puts a spring in my step.

 Happy Friday everyone!
