old friends.

Denim-Pleated Skirt: Made by Me.  Button-up: Express.  Necklace, Scarf: The Loft.  Belt: Thrifted.  Shoes: Guess (via Ross).

Right now I’m re-reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which I realize sounds ridiculous, but it is possibly the most charming book ever written.  It’s darling without being precious.

I promise that makes sense.

I’m one of those people who likes to re-read books they’ve read before.  I know that some people find this insufferable, but there it is.  I love it.  It doesn’t matter that I already know what happens at the end, because inevitably there is always something that I forgot about and it’s like a happy little surprise.  It also doesn’t hurt that I get to fall in love with Mr. Darcy (or Rochester, etc.etc.) over and over again.

There really is nothing better than curling up on the couch with an old friend and getting reacquainted.

And yes, I just referred to books as my friends.

Speaking of old friends, I’ve had this pink button-up shirt for probably 8 years and I still love it.  It’s still in almost perfect shape, and I can still remix it in about a billion different ways.  Plus it has buttons on the sleeves that go almost to my elbows.  And any shirt that has buttons like that is fine by me.

I loved the Potato Peel Pie book! Such a long name though-whenever I try to tell people about it, I inevitably leave out a word! And I like that you referred to books as old friends and enjoy re-reading them. I love re-reading.

I have that book because I’ve heard such good things about it but haven’t read it yet. I guess it should be next on my list after I finish The Forgotten Garden (so good as well!). And I don’t think it’s weird you re-read books, maybe because I do too. I love books and re-reading the really good ones. You’re totally right about always forgetting small parts too, it makes the re-read exciting still. :) And oh yeah, I LOVE your outfit. That necklace is awesome!

Me too, me too! I think I’ve read Jane Eyre more than ten times. There is nothing better than pulling out an old ‘friend’ and re-discovering everything that made it a keeper. Unless it’s discovering a new one. ;)

I love that book! I know exactly what you mean by being darling with being precious. I also agree that books are friends. I love rereading books. When you know the ending, you can focus on the details you missed or another facet or perspective.

Sorry. I got so distracted by your discussion of books, that I forgot that your outfit is the reason I’m here. I love your perfect button-up and that scarf!

  20. ok so i have those same guess nude pumps, but whenever i wear them, i feel like i have to be super dressed up and almost kinda hookerish in them. why/how do you make them look not hookerish and just perfect with whatever you wear?? i love them. i just wish i wore them more.

I loved that book! So sweet and full of charm. I am an avid reader and there are lots of books that I like to read again and again. I like to think of my books as my friends as well. ;) My husband cannot understand how I can stay up late reading because I just can’t wait until morning to see how a book ends. He thinks I’m a little insane sometimes when it comes to books. Love your blog and love the outfit. The necklace is totally fabulous! Book suggestion: Saving CeeCee Honeycutt. It’s one of my favorites.

I have read Pride and Prejudice a bunch of times and To Kill a Mockingbird and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn several times and love them more every time I do!
