Guest Post: Tiffany from House of Tong

So I really love photography and street style blogs.  I don’t know what it is, but there is something so unpretentious about the images you find there, the unassuming art of everyday people who use their clothing as a way to express themselves, whether anyone notices or not.  I find it incredibly inspiring.  Which is  why I asked Tiffany from House of Tong to talk about how she discovers everyday art when shooting street style.  Take it away girly!

Hi, I’m Tiffany  from the House of Tong! This is my first guest post ever and I’m honored to be able to do this for Cori on La Vie Petite. I am an aspiring  Photographer. I’ve been one for over a year now and have been very grateful for all the work I have received. I love shooting people. I am constantly trying to improve my skills and one way I do so is by capturing street style fashion for an awesome blog that I’m a Contributor on; Clothed Much.

Cori has asked me to write about how I capture the “Spark in People.”  In my opinion, photography  is all about the person behind the camera bringing out the best in the person(s) in front of the camera. In order for you to see the best from others, it is also important to bring out your best too.  This sounds crazy but having to find the beauty in the most harsh of life experiences that I’ve been through has helped me find the beauty all around me especially in the most raw of circumstances. I love photographing people in all stages of their life, and this has helped me on my toes and my evolving eye for  art.
Realize, you really don’t need to have the latest and greatest digital camera, photoshop actions, software editing system,  to be an awesome Photographer. Though all those are very VERY nice and useful tools,  it really boils down to YOU. It is your eye, your life experiences  that can help find the good in any environment around you.

Here is some of my advice in developing, owning, and cultivating the SPARK inside of you.

Here is some of my advice in developing, owning, and cultivating the SPARK inside of you.
1. Document your inspirations: Write/Instagram/blog/photograph/video/Pinterest/draw  – what inspires YOU. This will help your budding creativity. Document it all from the meal you just ate, to a piece abstract artwork that you recently saw, or, someone’s toothless smile even a homeless person.  Being on the look-out will help keep your personal creative juices flowing. You will be quite surprised as to what moves you and keeps you moving. Find it and build upon it.
2. Explore your medium: Since I was young, I loved using both Polaroid and analog cameras (and, I still do). I also loved drawing but as I got older, I realized I am a horrible artist. We now have so many tools in how one can express yourself. We have so many options in cameras. Find which one that fancies your budget, your artistic expression, and go for it!
3. Finding the Beauty in All: There is beauty in all Good, the Bad, and even the Ugly. What one may consider ugly can be considered beautiful to another person. Find it, own it, and build upon it.
4. Practice: Keep your passion alive and cultivate it by practice, practice, practice!! You are constantly evolving and so is your eye for photography. The only way to make to develop your talent is to make the time for it. Share your work with others to get constructive criticism. Take what you want and continue to practice.
5. Believe in yourself: You are worth taking the risk for your own happiness.
