how yana changed my day.

yesterday was a horrible day.

in fact december has been a pretty rough month so far, for a lot of reasons that i’m not going to get into because this blog is supposed to be a happy place where i talk about clothes and what funny thing my kids did and a lot of other nonsense and forget about how stressful life can be.

but yesterday was the literal worst.

then i sat down to nurse ava, picked up my (barely functioning piece of crap droid) phone and started looking through my instagram feed.  that led me to stumble upon this little darling’s story.

suddenly my bad day seemed kind of ridiculous.
i wanted to scoop her right up into my arms and bring her home to be part of my family.
if you remember my brother matty you’ll understand why i’ve got a serious soft spot for these little angels.
and why it totally breaks my heart that she’s stuck in an orphanage in eastern europe.
in fact i can’t stand the idea; it literally hurts.
i’m so happy there’s a family that wants her.  but international adoptions are like the most expensive things ever.
trust me, i’ve got two adopted sisters and their adoption costs (which were hefty) look like junk change compared to this.
anyways, you can donate to help get little Yana where she belongs.
it sounds silly, but just giving a little to help her have a chance made me feel better.
here’s hoping that enough people give a little this Christmas so the family that wants her can bring her home soon.
donate here.

So beautiful. This is one reason why I love your blog. There is meaning and heart here. I love fashion, but so many blogs about fashion just seem so superficial, and it’s all about “buy this, wear this, be cool.” Thank you for sharing this, and a little of your lovely life.

  4. First off, let me say yana is such a sweetie and I hope that the family gets to bring her home. Secondly, I also think this should be a place that you *can* share your life, good and hard, because that is what makes us all real and makes us want to keep coming back. The Blogs that I read most often are not the ones that are happy all the time and fluffy but the ones where real hard things have happened and I get to see how they overcome it and I learn from them and their experiences.
Okay, that was long and I am sorry. Thanks for sharing and for having this lovely little piece of the web I get to visit every day :)

  5. Oh and I donated to her fund – I sure hope some sweet family decides this Christmas is the one where they give the gift of family to that sweet girl!

Some friends of mine just adopted a little girl with Down Syndrome from Russia this past month. They already have a three year old son with it, and when they saw their (now three year old) daughter on a Reece’s Rainbow, they just had to have her. I have absolutely LOVED following along with them and seeing this little girl come to life in a loving home. I don’t know if their blog is public or not, but if it is, I thought you might enjoy seeing it http://redeemingourdaughter.blogspot.com/

  8. I’m just curious about you saying you have two adopted sisters. All the sisters you’ve shared with us on your blog look very much like you and I would be shocked if they were adopted. So do you have additional sisters or did your parents adopt girls that look very much like you?
Yana is a darling little girl and I hope very much she’ll find a forever family!
