all about the pants…

I’m a really big fan of printed pants right now, but I also find them a tricky style to pull off, a. because I have short legs, and b. because my thighs aren’t twig-like.

The last thing I want to do is look more stubby.  Here are a few tricks I’ve found for rocking the printed pant trend even without the ideal set of gams.

1. Fit: get the right fit. I prefer a trouser over a skinny pant.  I feel like they are more universally flattering.  Not too tight, not too loose.  Finding a great fit is tricky for me right now because my post-partum body is a bit disproportioned but I have faith that soon my hips to waist ratio will even itself out again and buying pants won’t be such a nightmare.  If you are in the same boat, don’t be afraid to tailor your pants.  A good alteration is worth every penny if it makes your clothes more wearable.

2. Pattern: If you have legs for days you can probably get away with big bold patterns, but for the rest of us, keeping the pattern smaller is wise.  I love geometric patterns, and small florals, but for heavens sake avoid florals of the ugly curtain variety.  Please and thank you.  Classic prints are less trendy and will stay in style for much longer.

3. Heels.  If all else fails, throw on some heels.  They add length, and who doesn’t need a little extra length?

;-)

Happy Tuesday.

Thanks Monica! I breastfeed, jog, watch what I eat and do pilates. Seems to do the trick, although it’s different for everyone. ;-)

  6. I love printed pants and have the same concerns about wearing them as you do, but I love your recommendations! I think that they are spot on and you can totally pull off a patterned pant!
