These pants were an exercise in faith for me. I found them at Loft when I was largely pregnant with Ava, on final clearance, plus 50% off, the kind of deal you dream about. I couldn’t actually try them on but I had the sneaking suspicion that they were the perfect pair of orangey red pants. There were two pair, one in my normal size, and one in a size larger. I went ahead and bought my normal size, not knowing if I would ever actually be that size again. (You know 4th baby and all.)
A week or two after I had Ava, and felt like I had gotten about a million times smaller (which, compared to 9 months pregnant, I had) I pulled these out of the closet where they had been waiting.
They didn’t fit.
And I mean not at all.
So I’ve been playing a little game with myself for the last 2 months. Every week or so I pull these pants back out and try them on again. They’ve gotten progressively closer and closer but never quite fit, and then the other day, on just a random Tuesday, I went into the closet on a whim pulled them out and put them on.
And they fit.
(WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!! times a million)
If you’ve ever been pregnant you know what it means to give up control of your body for nine months, understanding that you may never loose all the weight, and whether you do or not your body will never be quite the same.
(I’ve made peace with my post-breastfeeding non-existent chest. Mostly.)
It’s still worth it. All the strange in-between awkward body moments.
But finally fitting into these pants, feels like reason to celebrate.
On a separate note, wearing this combination of colors and stripes makes me feel very french. And what do you do when you feel french? You put on a neck scarf. That’s what.
Pants: Loft (red pants from Loft here) If you’re super petite like me might I suggest this pair. (I have them in blue and they are marvelous) Taller? No worries. Check these out.
Congratulations! I know the feeling of accomplishment/excitement/relief (and a little disbelief) that fitting back into your pre-preggo pants can bring on! This is a lovely outfit!
Congratulations! I am a first time mother and JUST had this experience the other day with a pair of jeans I have been trying on every few weeks :) My baby is 4 months old this Friday and this last week, I went and tried “those” jeans on and low and behold, THEY FIT! I applaud you after 4 children. Congrats, again! Love your blog and style :)
LOve this outfit and I totally know what you mean. After having my son it felt amazing once i could fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes. Love your outfit and the scarf. I need to get me one of those.
Congrats! I’m 14 weeks pregnant right now and I’m still trying to accept the fact that I won’t have any control over my weight in the coming months! I have to ask – do you have any kind of fitness regimen that helped you get back to your pre-baby pants? I’m so impressed at how quickly you got there!
Ooh la la. Cori, you really have the French je ne sais quois going on right from head to toe. The hair, sunnies, minimal accessories. I love it. Who says a t shirt and casual pants can’t look chic and stylish.
So happy to hear you so happy! :) You do look amazing.
I always love your style Cori. You really rock wearing ankle length pants with flats, a style that I love on myself. Just because we aren’t tall, doesn’t mean we should always be wearing heels.
Just found your blog, and you are adorable! I’m going to save my pennies for one of your fantastic skirts! Loved this post and loved the comment on making peace with your chest. I nursed five children and I’m still working on loving the new, flat me:).
