I don’t know what it is about decorating for Christmas but it really throws my love of textiles into overdrive. I’ve got a real weakness for textures. Heck, I’ll buy paper just because it feels amazing which makes absolutely no sense, but there it is. I especially love using different textures to create contrast within a theme. Which is why I wrap my tree in tulle and burlap, and my gifts in foiled paper with twine bows. A little high, a little low. It’s also the way I prefer to dress myself, not just during the holidays, but year round. So I paired the Kathleen dress’ textured linen with a sheer polka-dot chiffon top. It’s also why I designed the Kathleen dress with an exposed brass zipper, because I believe that design should be exciting and also a little surprising. And everybody knows that exposed zippers are the very best kind.
Dress: The Kathleen. Top: Old Navy.(last year. similar.) Shoes: TJMaxx. (similar.) Ring: TJMaxx. (similar.) Necklace: J Crew. (similar.)
I love mixing textures. I used to be a little afraid of it but now I just go all out. Besides… who’s to tell me it doesn’t work? Maybe I’m creating my own new trend.
