we search, we find, we shopstyle.

I think it’s safe to say that participating in Shopstyle’s latest campaign: we search, we find, we shopstyle, is one of the strangest things I have ever done.  It had me, and my sister practically in tears, we were laughing so hard, because I mean seriously, trying to take laying down pictures is ridiculous.  The good thing is, I don’t take myself all that seriously, so doing something ridiculous that might also be fun, is right up my alley.   Anyways, my favorite part of participating in the campaign has been curating pieces from my own closet.  Do you ever just go into your closet, you know, not with the express purpose of getting dressed, but just to take a look at the things you’ve collected and curated to clothe yourself everyday?  I felt like looking at the innards of my dressing space really gave me a lot of insight into what I’m drawn to, both consciously and unconsciously.  Years ago, my mom gave me great style advice.  She told me not to try too hard to find my own style; not to force it.  Just to go out and experience life, be around things and people and spaces and when I saw something that I just loved with out thinking, something I was drawn to unconsciously, to take note of it.  That I would naturally find my own personal style.  Isn’t that the greatest advice?  It’s served me so well, and helped me discover my own style, not just sartorially speaking, but in every aspect of my life, especially designing clothes.  I never worry too much about sticking to one particular style, I just immerse myself in the creative process and let the designs boil up on their own.  They always do.

For this particular campaign, I decided to just start with my favorites and see where they got me.  What I realized is that every item I seem to pull from on a daily basis is unique in some way, or another, be it texture, rich color, or embellishment.  I love the contradictions I found, lots of sequins and sparkle with a particular penchant for distressed jeans, and finally I’m a girl who really likes her black.  Especially when it comes to shoes.  I love pieces that are interesting and out of the ordinary, and you can see that when you look at the way I decorate my house or the way I wear my beloved boyfriend jeans with a two toned sequin shell, or four inch heels on a Tuesday afternoon.

So what does your closet tell you about you?

And BTW, I highly suggest checking out Shopstyle.  It’s like the google of the retail world, and it is a go-to when I want to hunt down just the right piece.  All the brands I love, all in one place, and no mall parking lots.  Yes, please.

I’m so happy to hear I’m not the only one who likes to just stare at their closet! I probably look like a loon, but hey it makes me happy and is free.
