the railroad.

Grand Central Dress.  Top: JCrew Factory.(similar) Necklace: J Crew.(similar) Belt: Vintage.(similar) Wedges: Old. (Similar.)

Railroad is in my blood.  I designed this dress for my Grandpa Brownie.  He was a railroad man, and one of the best, kindest men I’ve ever known.  I’ve always been proud to call myself his granddaughter.   I’m very inspired in my design process by the great people who’ve come before me, men and women alike.   Great railroad stripes make me weak in the knees.  I don’t know, maybe it’s in my blood.  But every time I wear this dress I feel that I can almost hear my Grandpa playing his harmonica, or see him making his way to the train yard every morning, and I feel like in some small way I’m part of something bigger.  Like all the people who’ve come before me are part of me somehow, and I truly believe they are.

Love, love, love that dress! I’m on shopping lockdown until my kitchen remodel is finished, but I have every intention of making a purchase soon! And such a wonderful way to keep your grandfather close.

I have to say, you may have just sold me on this dress. To be honest, the shop photos never really did much for me. In my opinion it was ok…but missing something, a certain je ne sais quoi if you will. Seeing it styled here opens up a host of possibilities that I never saw in this dress before and just put it on my must have list!

  4. I love this dress!! I wish I could wear it to work but we can’t wear anything faintly resembling denim :-( BUT thankfully, you have so many gorgeous pieces for me to choose from.

Love the dress. Have you considered creating a skirt based on the bottom of this dress? I’d be the first in line for that piece.
