Last Sunday, I was rummaging through my disorganized closet, trying to figure out something for church and I stumbled upon this skirt. It was one of the first pieces I designed to sell, and because I was feeling especially nostalgic, I decided to try it on again. It was pleasantly surprising how much I still love this skirt and the way it fits me. I felt like giving three years ago me a high-five because back then I still knew so little about making clothes, and I was sort of expecting to put this skirt on now and notice all the things I did wrong. I’m often my own worst critic and I was basically expecting to see in this piece all the things I didn’t know how to do right, but it turns out, I still really like the design, and it still fits and flatters me in just the way I meant for it to. And somehow the idea that 3 years ago, naive me was able to design something that current “much more savvy” me still approves of, gives me confidence for all the things that intimidate me now. Maybe future me will approve as well. I’d like to hope so…
