This time of year, I’m always looking for pieces that still work for the warmish weather, but transition nicely into fall.  A lightweight but long-sleeved top, comfy breathable skinny jeans and lightweight jackets are go-tos.  I’ve got two out of three here so I guess I’m all set.  August has my permission to turn into September.  (just kidding, kind of)

Last Friday, I dropped Craig off at the airport for his flight to the other side of the world, while the kids and I headed south for some time by the seaside.  He’s heading to Japan for most of the rest of August for work, and we are having an adventure on the coast.  Driving long hours through traffic, solo with four kids is an experience, especially since I’d had such little sleep over the last week and there was no spouse in the seat next to me to help me stay awake.  My kids are really great travelers (you have to be when you’ve moved as much as we have) which makes the whole process a heck of a lot easier, but we still ended up on the side of the road, in the dark, with two little men emptying their bladders because it was an “emergency.”

We love reading aloud together, so I pulled up Anne of Green Gables on Audible and we spent the entire drive basking in the beauty of Prince Edward Island; the kids laughing at every little scrape Anne got herself into.  I tell you what, I will never listen to plain old music on a road trip again.  That’s the least my kids have ever fought.  (little Audible tip for you, the classics are so, so inexpensive on audible, where a newer book costs $20-30, you can get a classic for $1-2 or sometimes free.  Plus I want my kids to know/love the classics so it’s a win/win.)

I love that outfit. I’m thinking now that I could make a top like that…I did when I was like 8 or 9. But maybe you could produce one for us next time you are designing.

I love that top. I am ready for the weather that is somewhat cooler for layering, but dreading the real cold!

We use audiobooks on our travels, too. Chronicles of Narnia are some of our favorites. We listened to almost the whole series on a cross country trip! I am really hooked on audiobooks now. I joined audible a couple of years back. We homeschool, and I buy as many of our “read-alouds” as are available. The kids get to hear another voice than mine. And I listen to them on my iPod when flying- I can’t read or watch movies very much due to motion sickness. I also use them as a sleep aid- maybe not the best habit, but when I’m stressed, it relaxes my mind and helps me drift off. The problem is the book keeps playing, and then I have to find the place where I fell asleep!

  5. That top is AMAZING! It looks like the leaves are popping out of the shirt XD. A lil bit exaggerated here but what I’m trying to say it looks so 3D.

    Love that top so much!
