It’s Fall!

(cue happy dance.)

I’ve made it no secret that this is my favorite time of year, and I’m so happy my season has finally arrived. (Although, I’ve had a pumpkin spice candle burning in my house for over a month.)

During the early fall when the sun is shining and the air is just slightly crisp (don’t you love that-eeek!) I’m all about great transitional pieces.  It’s not really cold enough for anything too heavy, but you still want a little extra something.  Lightweight layers are perfect.

Three of my favorite transition pieces are jackets, boots, and jeans.

I picked up this jacket at Gap about a month and a half ago, and I knew it would be the perfect summer-to-fall transition piece.  I love the way it hangs, it’s super soft and it washes really nicely.  (I love when my clothes wash well, because with a toddler, and my two rascally boys, I end up gooped-up by the end of the day more often than not.) And this caramel color has turned out to be really versatile. (BTW- you can pick up this jacket for 40% off today plus free two day shipping.)

Speaking of versatile.  Do you have a pair of cognac booties yet?  I looked for the right pair all last year and never found anything that really thrilled me at a reasonable price: i.e somewhere between $75-150. (I found a few in the $500-700 range but, no.)  I don’t mind paying a reasonable price for good quality shoes but as a mom of four I’m not in the $500 for a pair of shoes stage.  Too many people to clothe in my household and I really wear my clothes right now.  Like on the floor playing with Ava, and at the park, and running kids to practice and scouts, and tromping around this gorgeous rainy city through puddles, and to beach parks.  I like my clothes–and especially my shoes– to work for me.  So a good solid quality that will last, at a price that works is pretty much what I’m in the market for all the time.  Booties are essential in these colder-wetter months in Seattle and I’m so glad I finally (!) found a pair in cognac because it’s such a versatile color.  I swear it goes with everything.

And lastly, a great pair of skinnies are always on the menu for fall.  It took me a long while to really warm to skinny jeans, but once I started finding fits that worked for me and my really short legs I found them to be a great piece to have in my closet.  I like that I can wear them with sandals in the late-summer, booties and riding boots in the fall, and my Hunters in the colder-wetter months.  This pair has been a dream come true.  I bought them a few months ago and wore them almost every day for weeks.  Already my cost-per-wear is down in the pocket change and they still look fantastic, like the day I bought them.  Plus they’re comfortable!  (They’re also on sale right now, with pretty much all the sizes still in stock, fyi.)  And if you’re a shorty like me, don’t be discouraged from a pair just because they’re too long.  Cut them off and wear them.  You can tuck them up (I do that all the time #lazyhemmer) or even leave them unhemmed if you like because distressed is in.  But if you do happen to hem them, make sure and wait until you’ve washed them at least 4-5 times. (I usually wait 6 washes)  Otherwise they’ll shrink too short later, just trust me on that…

Happy Wednesday everyone!
