plaid and preppy.

Yesterday morning I took Ava and met some friends at the cutest little pumpkin patch just northeast of Seattle.  Don’t you just love fall?  All harvest related things are the most charming, hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkin patches.  And all fall treats are the yummiest.  Pumpkin spice everything, warm bread, cider…. I could go on and on.  It makes me want to wear nothing but plaid, preppy pieces while strolling through leaf piles in my riding boots.

pretty sailor pieces:

prettiest plaid pieces around:

I’ve always loved wearing good classic preppy pieces, but never so much as in the fall when all the best of prep comes out.  Tartan scarves, tall boots, houndstooth blazers, tweed skirts and wool sweaters… I could go on.  Among my preppy favorites are good sailor inspired pieces, particularly the breton striped shirt (a seasonless preppy classic) and sailor skirts and pants.

I’ve been crushing on Red Valentino’s sailor inspired line for the last couple months, but it’s quite a bit above my price range (this skirt though!) so when I found this J.Crew sailor skirt for a fraction of the price I did a little mental cartwheel.  I feel like J.Crew kind of lost it’s way for a couple years, but it’s really been leaning back to it’s classic roots lately and I couldn’t be happier.  No one does a great structured wool skirt like J.Crew and this one is no exception.  Gorgeous quality, perfect cut and at just over $100 it’s the perfect classic addition to my fall/winter line-up and I can’t wait to wear it all through the colder months.

I might have had a little styling party in my bedroom over the weekend, playing with a bunch of fun ways to wear this pretty skirt.  I can’t wait to show you the other ways I’m going to wear it… (If you buy it make sure and size up at least one size because it runs small.  And I almost went up two sizes.)
