First off, Happy Thanksgiving!

We spent a good 8.5 hours in the car last night getting down to the Oregon coast for the holiday and I’m just thankful to be out of the car.

This month threw a few curve balls at some people I love; one of my dear friend’s 2 year old son was just diagnosed with leukemia, and two days ago my favorite uncle had a heart attack.  When bad things happen, especially to people I love, I feel more grateful than ever for the life I’ve been given (the good and the bad), the family that I have, and especially for the gospel of Jesus Christ which gives me an infinite feeling of peace and a lot of perspective when it comes to making sense of it all.

We’re spending the holiday in Oregon with my dad and his wife, and I’m looking forward to a happy laid-back day of parade watching, football playing, and sweet potato eating.  Mmmm.  We always see a movie after dinner on Thanksgiving too and it’s one of my favorite traditions.  What are some of your favorites?

It seems silly to talk about shopping on a day when we’re just supposed to be thankful, but I also know that black Friday sales are a huge deal for me in my Christmas shopping.  Buying gifts for a large family gets mucho expensive and I really try to take advantage of some of the great sales happening that help make my dollars stretch.  There are some huge black Friday sales that have started early, and like all great sales, the best stuff goes first, so I’ve listed out them out below, in case you want to get a jump on your holiday shopping.

Make sure and come back early tomorrow morning (like as soon as the clock strikes twelve) and I’ll have a comprehensive list of all the best black friday deals happening.  I’m also going to hunt down the best pieces from each of the sales to save you time, and let me know in the comments if there is something in particular (especially those big ticket items) that you’re looking for and I’ll try to hunt down the best deal.

Here goes:

J.Crew is having their biggest sale ever.  Literally, they have never done this markdown before.  40% off your entire order. (use code HOLIDAY) Run, don’t walk.  This plaid shirt is perfect for Christmas, and how amazing is this dropped waist houndstooth dress?!  They have awesome gift guides for everyone on your list, and crew cuts is on point this year.

J.Crew Factory has 50-60% off everything, online only.  This coat I’m wearing is marked down to less than $115 (that’s a lot less than I paid for it, boo.)  I’m on a major Factory kick this year and this sale is a really good one.

The Shopbop sale is still going strong.  Depending on how much you spend, you can get up to 25% off. This is the ideal time to pick up a new Tory Burch wallet, a Michael Kors watch or a new pair of Ray-ban sunglasses.  The last time they had a sale like this I bought a new pair of boots, AG jeans, a pair of ray-bans and a suede leather jacket.  If this is the year to splurge a little on your mom you can get a deep discount on some designer pieces.  Other favorites to pick up during the sale: Sorel Boots, AG jeans, anything from Madewell, and my favorite Clare V. leopard clutch. use code: GOBIG16

Early savings have started at Nordstrom.  My favorite Tory Burch tote (which I’m wearing in these pics) is marked 30% off right now!  I seriously use this bag almost every single day and it somehow (magically) goes with everything.  It also works beautifully as a travel tote- laptop, book, sunglasses, water bottle… etc.  Everything fits in this bag!

Speaking of Tory Burch!  30% off right now when you spend $250.  Please bury me in pretty handbags and gorgeous wallets.

Flash sale at Loft, 50% off everything today only.  You need this sweater tunic in your life.  Trust me.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I found your blog by accident on Bloglovin’ and I immediately liked your simple style with a mix of high end and affordable options. However, what kept me coming back was your actual blog. As a writing teacher, I love a simple story – genuine and heartfelt. When I read your blog, it seems like a short conversation over coffee between girlfriends. Today, I looked at your post today and liked you even more with the mention of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Your sentiment was perfect: ” the gospel of Jesus Christ which gives me an infinite feeling of peace and a lot of perspective when it comes to making sense of it all.” That is so true for me as well and it is encouraging to hear someone else say that out loud , in public, and in this day and age. Thank you.

Hi Denise, thank you so much for this comment! When I write my posts, I kind of just always picture that I’m sitting chatting with friends, and I have made so many lovely ones from this blog! I’m so glad you feel the same way. i get so much peace from the gospel of Jesus Christ and I felt long ago that if I wasn’t shy about sharing my feelings about that, that God would bless my life with joy, and He absolutely has. Merry Christmas to you!
