snow day.

Can I tell you something funny about me?  One of the things that makes me excited about moving to Connecticut in a few weeks is that it snows there.  Maybe it’s because I’m a January baby, but I love the snow.

Tell me there’s a snow day in the forecast and I’m a happy girl.

The funny thing is, when I left home for college, all my California friends teased me that I would hate the snow and I’d be miserable trying to survive the Idaho winters.  But, you know what?  I loved those snowy winters.  (The windy Idaho springs that wreaked havoc on my allergies, that’s another story)  And when we lived in Utah for several years after college I actually liked shoveling our driveway.

I know.  I don’t know what’s wrong with me either…

The truth is, I just like having all the seasons.  I love the way just when you’re getting sick of the snow, the world turns into spring and just when you’re really ready to take off your sweaters spring turns into the summer.  Just when you’ve had quite enough of the heat, summer turns into fall.  And then…well who am I kidding, no one gets sick of the fall.  (#amiright?)

Anyway, I know that when the weather is snowy, it can be hard to be creative with your clothes, but the good news is there are lots of ways to put together cute outfits even when it’s cold and snowy.  It doesn’t have to be all jeans and clunky boots…throwing on a wool skirt and some thick tights with a pair of riding boots and a chunky sweater keeps you plenty cozy, is still weather appropriate and feels fun to wear.  I’ve been really into wearing my cold-weather skirts this fall and winter and it’s made it so much more fun.

How do you keep your closet interesting during the cold months?

  1. Ironically I am not a dress or skirt gal myself, I am always wearing jeans. To keep from growing bored during the East Coast’s winter weather, I vary up the style of the jeans. Skinny jeans tucked into tall boots or booties, bootcut jeans (when the snow and salt are gone) paired with boots on drier days, and a heavy focus on my top half, I play around with how I layer (or simply don’t layer) my top half to prevent boredom.

Even though I complain a lot about the Winter weather, I prefer to live in places that have all 4 seasons. The change in season makes it exciting and there is always something to look forward to. This is a cute winter outfit!

That is one thing that is really rough about Washington. We have like six months of winter, three months of really bipolar spring, and the rest is taken up by a really amazing summer and fall. It would be amazing to be somewhere that gets all four seasons!

I love what you did for a winter outfit, it does get rough having to grab for the same heavy jacket and make sure you’re bundled up everyday. I love how this looks like it would be super warm, and is still cute!
