Yesterday I boarded a train at Union Station in New Haven and rode into NYC for the day. I haven’t been in the city for a few years and I was thrilled that work gave me an excuse to play hooky on a Thursday. I was partnering with Mazda and SheBuysCars to give a presentation on social media to a bunch of influencers at a Girls Night Out event at the New York Auto Show. It was really fun. I don’t know why, but stuff like that doesn’t really scare me. Which is strange, because too many things give me anxiety, but standing in front of a bunch of people I don’t know and speaking, it just doesn’t phase me. I actually think it’s kind of fun. The best part was just getting to meet new people, a lot of amazing women, who where so nice, and fun to chat with. In short, it was a nice evening.
I mean, I love my kids, but it’s nice to hang out with grown-ups too. And remind myself that I am in fact one as well.
I was chatting with a lady last night and she asked me why I started a blog. I thought back to the beginning of all of this, (to the bad pictures and cheesy copy) and I realized that it all started with me just wanting to dress to feel like a woman. That’s been a struggle for me basically all of my adult life, and I started this blog to help myself, and hopefully other women, learn how to dress in a way that made them/me feel confident in their/my own skin.
When you’re 4’11” and have a nonexistent chest, it’s hard to feel like a woman in any clothes, but every once in a while I find something that makes me feel like a real, true, grown up woman. This dress is one of them. I love it. I love that it fits and gives me curves I didn’t know I had. And it does it all while being classic and a little elegant with a touch of whimsy. Bet you didn’t think a sheath dress could be all those things, huh? ;-) And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous texture on this spring tweed, cause…
I paired it with blush here, but I’m going to wear it with my little navy cardigan, and my new Tory Burch bag next.
Do you have an item in your closet that just makes you feel so great?
