how to wear all white.

White denim culottes. perfect white tee. cage bag. (similar here and here.) my favorite summer wedges. necklace.  favorite sunglasses. watch.

I hope you guys had a fabulous Memorial day!  Since it was pretty cold and rainy, we spent the morning getting some things done around the house and then went out for burgers and a movie later on in the day.  It was a perfectly low-key holiday.

Since it’s now un-officially-officially “summer” I thought I would jump head-first into the season’s favorite albeit trickiest color: white.  Anyone who knows me, knows I love all things white, however, I find it to be a tricky color, especially when getting dressed, for a few reasons.  One, it seems to be less forgiving.  Like a big highlighter on all your flaws, especially those legs, ugh. And second, it gets dirty.  And if you’re a mom, you know how easy it is to smudge any piece of white clothing.

The thing is, no matter how tricky white can be, it’s still one of my favorite things to wear, so I thought I would share some of my tips for pulling it off successfully.

1- If you love the idea of white pants but feel like the skinny variety is really unflattering, give a pair of cropped culottes a chance.  It’s a super chic silhouette and a big trend this summer, and it’s much more forgiving.  These denim ones are a new favorite.

2- If you do go for the fitted white on your bottom half, do a dimple check before you purchase to make sure the fabric is thick enough to keep you covered.  This is important and easy,  just do a quick turn in the mirror for a backside check while trying on to make sure the fabric is adequate.

3- Don’t be that afraid of smudges.  Will the white pieces get dirtier?  Yes.  (Especially if you are a mom) But have no fear.  Carry a tide pen, for on the go clean ups.  And when you’re done with the day, throw them in the wash on hot with some bleach and they’ll come out good as new.

4-Try white on white for a chic summer monochromatic look.  I promise you will love it.  Just make sure you balance your proportions.  If you’re going fitted on top, opt for a looser bottom, like I did here.  If you’re going fitted on top, try a more relaxed top.  I also love to add in rich natural browns when I go monochrome to keep the outfit warm, but a pop of color in the shoes and/or handbag would be super cute as well.

5-Try a little white dress.  It’s summer’s version of the LBD and just as chic.  Perfect for summer parties, or just a day out.

6- Add some texture.  Try white lace or eyelet pieces, both are huge this summer.  They add a great texture while staying fresh.

There you have it!  Some of my tips for wearing white in the summer.  What are some of yours?

I LOVE white. I am currently trying to find a flattering pair of white jeans. Lately, it seems that everything is mid rise and this style does not work on me. I won’t give up the good fight….they are out there somewhere. Love the look.
