From the moment I met my husband Craig, one thing was very clear.  He had a ton of energy and he was very adventurous.  The first few times we hung out we went horseback riding, spelunking, and played touch football.  I knew even back then that if we got together, I’d have to keep up.  Both of us love to be outside and active, especially in the summer and so our date nights this time of year almost always revolve around at least one of those two things (preferably both).  The great thing about being married to a mover, is that you end up having a lot of really great adventures and they’re fun.

It’s so important to us that we stay connected and keep our marriage strong, and one of the ways we do that is by getting out of our routine and doing something really fun, together.

Here are 6 of our favorite summer date ideas that will get you outside and moving:

1. Have a picnic.  Grab a blanket and some grub to-go and have a picnic at the park.  Hit up the swings at the end or just walk around and enjoy each other’s company.

2. Go kayaking.  We own several kayaks and it’s one of our favorite dates.  Lots of places around lakes and rivers rent kayaks out and it’s such a fun active date.  And bonus, it’s a great arm workout.

3. Take a hike.  No literally.  Go hiking, it’s so fun to get out into nature together.  Pack a yummy snack for the halfway point.

4. Grab dinner al fresco.  Head into your city’s downtown area and grab dinner al fresco, then walk around afterwards and talk.

5. Learn something new together.  It could be anything, but it’s really fun to learn something new with your spouse.  Several years ago we got scuba certified and every time we had a class or a practice dive it was like the most fun date ever.  Take a cooking class, learn how to ballroom dance, take a mixed martial arts class together.

6. Go swimming!  It’s summer, it’s warm, grab your suit and hit the pool or lake together.  It’s great exercise and also, it’s fun to smooch your honey in the water…

What’s your favorite active date idea?

You guys know how much I love my Rockport shoes, because they are made for movers.  I feel like I can be cute and still move around and have fun when I’m wearing them.  I just added this gorgeous pair of Cobb Hill wedges to my summer capsule, and they are perfect for date nights.  I’m especially picky about my wedges and I love this pair because they are super cute and versatile, easy to walk/move in, and they are so, so comfortable.  The straps are nice and breathable and are comfortable right out of the box (no breaking-in required).  They’d make a great travel shoe as well, cause they are lightweight (great for avoiding extra weight in your suitcase) and really great for walking, plus the low wedge would be a cinch to navigate over cobblestone.  I’ll definitely be taking these to Europe later this summer.

I snagged this great pair of casual shoes for Craig, because I wanted to find him something a little more relaxed, but still nice enough to wear to dinner if you know what I mean.  Craig wears slacks and dress shoes to work everyday, but at heart he’s a total t-shirt and jeans kind of guy, and I love that I found a pair of casual shoes that fit his personality.

I always order our Rockports from Zappos because I love their lightning fast free shipping, awesome customer service, and 365-day return policy.  Call it impatience, but I like when I order something to have it on my doorstep only a few days later, and with Zappos, that’s what I get every single time.
