super easy and delicious German pancake recipe!

I am so excited to share one of my family’s favorite recipes with you today, German Pancakes! I’ve heard these called German pancakes, dutch baby pancakes, Yorkshire pudding and hootenannies… A {pancake} by any other name would be just as sweet… in our house we call them delicious.

I started making these over Christmas break, and they became an instant family favorite. I’ve been tweaking the recipe and playing with different combinations of sweet and savory for toppings and add ins, this one is our favorite, by far!

This recipe has only six simple ingredients and takes about five minutes to prep. Literally so easy to make and so delicious. Here’s my super simple, super easy recipe, plus the yummy berry sauce we all love to top them with.  Make it for brunch this weekend, and I promise they’ll be a big hit!

German Pancake Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  •  1 cup all-purpose flour
  •  dash salt
  •  1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 Tablespoons butter

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • As oven preheats, put the butter in an un-greased 9×13-in. baking dish and place in oven, just until melted.
  • Place the eggs, milk, flour, salt and vanilla in a blender; cover and process until smooth. Pour batter into baking dish, over melted butter.
  • Bake, for 22-27 minutes or until edges are golden brown and puffy.
  • To serve, sprinkle generously with powdered sugar, syrup or a berry sauce. (our favorite!)

(You can also add cooked bacon and herbs into the batter for a savory breakfast pancake, its super yummy too!)

Our favorite berry sauce recipe:

  • 2 cups of frozen mixed berries
  • 2 spoonfuls of sugar (doesn’t need to be exact)
  •  1 spoonful of cornstarch (doesn’t need to be exact)
  • Add frozen mixed berried and sugar to a pan, heat until bubbly. Add cornstarch and stir until thickened a bit. Serve warm!

    Hello from Germany,

this recipe baked in the oven is unknown to me, but it really sounds delicious. The ingredients are familiar, but we pour the batter in a pan on the stove. Interestingly many restaurants serve American pancakes for breakfast or brunch instead.

Keep the good work going! Love some insights in american families.
