favorite summer capsule sandals.

As we are rounding out the month of May and the weather is finally really starting to warm up in New England, I’ve got summer on my mind. Summer is always a tricky time for me to get dressed because I love layers, and well, I can’t really wear them when it’s 90 degrees with 95% humidity… I fall back on my summer capsule hard during the warm months on the East Coast, and building a really intentional one has made getting dressed during the summer a breeze for the last few years. So let’s talk summer capsule sandals today.

Shoes are such an important part of an outfit especially in the summer when outfits are much simpler and more streamlined. I made the decision to only invest in good shoes 7-8 years ago and I have never looked back. Your feet are so important and as I’ve gotten older, I’m just no longer tolerant of bad shoes that give me foot pain. I’d rather have 3 great pairs of capsule shoes, than 10 pairs that fall apart and don’t give me adequate support. The great news is, well chosen capsule shoes will be so versatile and well made, you only need a few pairs. Here are my favorite summer capsule sandals.

Pretty much all of these summer capsule sandals are flats because I’ve just found during the more casual months of summer, it’s really all I want to wear, and I’ve made a rule for myself and my capsule that I only buy what I love and actually wear, in my real life, as I’m living it, right now. I know, it’s a novel idea. ;-)

Born Sandals.

I’ve had a pair of Born sandals as part of my summer capsule for the last 4 summers and 100% they are the #1 sandal I recommend for summer travel, especially if the travel involves a lot of walking. I literally walked over 100 miles in my Born sandals on our trip to Europe back in 2018 and my feet NEVER hurt. Besides a pair of sneakers, they were the only shoes I brought on the trip and basically the only ones I needed. Born sandals are incredibly well made, supportive and comfortable, with soft as butter leather. I highly recommend grabbing a pair for your summer capsule.

Nisolo sandals.

Another favorite brand for summer sandals, is Nisolo. I got these sandals last year and wore them constantly. Nisolo is an ethical fair trade brand, the quality is impeccable and the sandals are so, so comfortable. The Serena is a great classic ankle strap sandal, that’s super flattering even if you have short legs like me. I plan to try out their huarache sandals this summer as well in the almond color.

TKEES flipflops.

I’m a California girl, born and raised so flip flops are always going to have a place in my summer capsule, and I love that I can elevate the style with these TKEES flip flops. TKEES flip flops are designed to “disappear” on your feet. The brand calls them cosmetics for your feet, and honestly, that’s exactly what they do, which is great for lengthening your legs. (Always great if you are short like me!) I have them in brown leather and a neutral shade as well. They’re a great elevated summer flip flop. They leather and soles are a little stiff at first and take a bit to break in, but once you do they’re very comfortable.

Platform Sandals.

This is a new style to my summer capsule this year, but I am really loving the chunky platform styles I’m seeing around the web. I just added this pair of Madewell sandals to my capsule this summer and they’re really fun, and work even if you have wide feet like mine. I’d love to try this platform sandals from Nisolo as well.
