One of our big project plans for the summer has been to create an inviting outdoor space to gather. I wanted to furnish our existing pea gravel back area as well as expand it over to the mudroom entrance of the house. We’ve spent the majority of our project time and money the last 4 summers on farm projects: clearing property, building animal fences, fixing up the barn, and building a chicken coop, so I was very excited that at last we can work on our sitting and gathering areas. I love pea gravel garden sitting areas for outdoor spaces in general. They feel very European and natural and since our property is a bit wild, I didn’t want anything to feel over-landscaped, so this look is very natural.

For the eating area, I added a few new things for summer entertaining this year. We already had a white table but I added new folding chairs with a pop of black this season. I usually stick to neutrals for my home, but I thought a pop of red would be fun for the summer holidays, so I snagged these little plastic plates. Wicker chargers always come in handy for year-round table setting, but they are especially charming in the summer with gingham napkins in an outdoor setting. I also added this cute drink dispenser that holds a ton of liquid, so it’s perfect for a party.
The area I was really excited to work on was a fire pit sitting area in the open gravel space next to our table. I picked out these awesome and very affordable Adirondack chairs from Walmart. I love Adirondack chairs because they’re so comfortable but still look elegant and classic. The pop of black really grounds the space and the gravel.
I also added this fire pit to the area. I wanted something that looked nice but was low profile so it wouldn’t distract from the view. At under $50 it was a steal and I can’t wait to roast marshmallows as a family.
I have been so impressed by Walmart’s home offerings this season, and I love that I was able to put together a really lovely little outdoor sitting area for a great price. All the furniture arrived super quick with fast free shipping, and I love how everything turned out. I can’t wait to use this space over the 4th of July weekend and for lots of summer dinners al fresco!
