my formula for a cozy layered bed.

This post was created in partnership with Quince.

Cozy Layered bed: Linen and Cotton Stitch Quilt. European Linen Duvet. European Linen Sheet set. Linen Euro Shams.

If you struggle with knowing how to create a cozy layered bed look, this post is for you. I’m sharing my formula today. It’s been a couple years since I replaced our bedding, and since I am doing a full bedroom refresh right now, it was the perfect time to add some cozy new bedding from Quince.

Sweater: Quince Oversized Cashmere Boyfriend Cardigan.

I’ve been a fan of Quince since I discovered the brand over a year ago. I live in their linen pieces during the summer and in their cashmere sweaters all fall and winter. I’ve been so impressed by the quality, design and price of everything I’ve ordered. After I added their bamboo bedding to the girls’ bedroom this summer, I knew I wanted to try their cozy linens in ours this fall. The bedding is all so beautiful and the prices are so affordable. It’s luxury bedding at a fraction of what you pay with other brands.

There’s nothing better at the end of a long day than climbing into a beautifully made bed. Especially during cozy season. It’s probably why I’ve always been adamant about making my bed, because that moment when you walk into your room at night, exhausted, and you pull back the neatly folded quilt, climb into crisply tucked sheets, then pull a fluffy duvet over you, is absolute magic.

I love the layered bed look you see from designers everywhere, and whenever it was time to refresh our bedding in the past, I’d spend weeks obsessing over the different elements. Bedding can be an investment, and I wanted to get it right. A couple years ago I came up with a formula for creating a textured layered bed look, and it’s worked for me again and again. The best part is, you can rotate the way you layer it throughout the year and completely change the look of the bed without having to purchase all new bedding.

My formula for a cozy layered bed.

My formula for a cozy layered bed look involves 4 elements:

1.High texture + neutral piece. This could be either a quilt, coverlet or duvet, but you want a neutral color with high texture. For this bedding look I went with Quince’s linen and cotton stitch quilt. It’s got a ton a great earthy texture while still being incredibly soft. I love the subtle depth it gives bed.

2. Smooth texture + Neutral piece. Most often this will be your sheets layer, but you can also mix it up with a smooth, neutral duvet. My smooth neutral layer for this cozy bed is Quince’s European linen sheet set. I went with the color “Sand” and it’s the perfect soft neutral shade. I was curious to see how I would like sleeping on linen sheets after being devoted to cotton for many years, but these are so soft and breathable but cozy. I’ve been sleeping like a baby.

3. Smooth texture + a contrasting or moody color. For this layer I’ve brought in a moody charcoal duvet from Quince’s European linen line, but I’ve also added the contrast layer with sheets in the past. This gives the bed some depth without overwhelming the space.

4. Pattern + neutral or coordinating color. I think it’s always fun to add a some pattern into a space, it really adds depth to the design. This could be done with anything from a throw blanket, to throw pillows, your sheet set or even (as I did here) a headboard. To keep the room from feeling too busy, try to make your pattern either neutral or coordinate to the contrasting color on your bed.

Once you have all the elements to your formula collected you can play with the layering combinations to totally change up the look of your bed. For example, in early fall, I’m starting with the linen-cotton stitch quilt for my base layer with the charcoal European linen duvet thrown atop. Later in the winter, I might make the duvet the base layer, move the charcoal Euro shams back to the headboard and toss the quilt on the end of the bed. By switching these pieces around and layering them differently, I can completely change the look of the bed.

I hope this formula gives you some ideas for creating a layered fall bed look. If you’re ready to switch up your bedding this season and try a layered look, check out the beautiful bedding from Quince, and don’t forget to use my code: AFF-CORI10 for 10% off.
