Today I’m going to show you an idea for a beautiful DIY Christmas wreath.
Christmas is one of my favorite times of year to create in my home. It’s so easy to make things look lovely when you’re working with garland, ribbons, dried fruit and bells, and I love the way our old saltbox sparkles at Christmas time. One of my favorite things to make for my home during the holidays is a beautiful Christmas wreath for our front door. Today I’m going tell you how to create a similar wreath for your home!
This beautiful DIY Christmas wreath is easy to make, only takes a few minutes and is very affordable. When it’s done you have a gorgeous custom Christmas wreath for your door.
Grab your Christmas wreath base.
To start this project you will need, a wreath! I know, duh. You can make your own with cut evergreen branches, grab a fresh one from the store or buy a basic green artificial wreath. I highly recommend grabbing this beautiful Sonoma Cyprus wreath that I used for mine. It’s under $20, is 24″ so it’s a nice big wreath and looks so realistic! I plan to buy a few more for around my home.
Collect natural accents for your wreath.
To give your wreath a lovely old fashioned feel, collect natural things to accent the greens. I used pine cones and dried orange slices on my wreath, but you could add branches, or sprigs, holly berry stems, other kinds of dried fruit… really the sky is the limit. Attach the natural pieces throughout the wreath using floral wire, and make sure to step back as you add them to makes sure they look balanced and not too busy.

Layer your ribbons.
I think what makes this Christmas wreath feel so special are the lovely layered ribbons. To create this look you want a combination of colors, textures and patterns. Here’s my formula for creating the perfect layered ribbon look:
Large patterned ribbon, medium solid ribbon in the same color way, smaller contrasting solid velvet ribbon. I choose a large plaid green ribbon for my base ribbon, a hand dyed green linen ribbon for my second layer, and then rounded out the look with this beautiful gold velvet ribbon. You can create any color/pattern combination that works with your decor them, just make sure the colors work together and don’t clash and that you stick to 1 patterned ribbon so it doesn’t wind up feeling too busy.
Tie the ribbon in simple bows and then attach them together and then to the wreath using floral wire.

Finish your Christmas Wreath with bells!
Is there anything more iconic than the sound of bells on the door at Christmastime? So of course we have to finish off our lovely Christmas wreath with some bells. I chose some happy little jingle bells in antique brass for my wreath and strung them together with twine, but you can use any bells that you like. I hung mine from the center using, once again, floral wire, and that’s it!
This DIY Christmas wreath was so easy, it only took me about 10 minutes to put together and turned out so pretty. I know I’ll happily hang it on my door for years to come!
