the poppy red.

Skirt: La Vie Petite. Button:up/Jacket: The Loft.  Shoes: Target.  Necklace: Downeast Basics.   Belt: Thrifted.

I’ve decided that every self-respecting American woman should own a great red and white striped skirt.  Actually, just every woman.  How can you not just die over red and white stripes?  So clean, so fresh.  I feel as if I’m about to jump onto a yacht or eat a hot dog.

In any case, a red and white striped skirt just sings summer, and even though it’s already felt like summer for a good 3 months down here in AZ, I thought since this is the holiday that kicks off the season, this skirt fit the bill.  Want one of your own?  You can buy it here.

I love Memorial day.  First of all because it means Mr. Husband gets to stay home from work and play with me and the kids all day, but also because of what it represents.  A day to stop and remember all the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom we enjoy.  When we toured the Queen Mary a few weeks ago and learned how absolutely crucial she was in winning WWII, I had a thought.  War was so much more real back then.  Everybody went to war, even those who stayed home.  Women went to work in the factories for the men, people volunteered, everyone was on rations, there were steel drives and rubber drives, and lots of men gave their lives.  People banded together, and the war was won.  War isn’t real for us.  We are so disconnected from it these days.  Few of us are asked to sacrifice anything, really, to sustain our freedom.  But our freedom has been sustained, is still being sustained.  Today I’m thinking about all past and present who have sacrificed anything, resources, time, and even their lives so that I may love the freedom I live.
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

Oh, man. I just gasped out loud at that skirt. I have loved the others you are offering, but seriously, if you keep showing me so many great choices, I am going to be broke and have a closet with more skirts than days in a month. It is gorgeous!
