little boys.

Gingham Shirt: Gap Kids.  Blazer/Pearls: Thrifted.  Skirt: Vintage Nordstrom.  Tights/Shoes: Target. Umbrella: Ross

I got a headache in church yesterday.  And boy it was a doozy.  Whenever I get a really bad headache it helps to wear my glasses.  I usually only wear them when I’m driving at night or at the movies, because those are really the only times when I feel a pressing need to see well.

And yeah, I guess I could get contacts, but I want to not touch my eye a lot more than I want to see.

I know, my priorities are askew.

Also, I spent a large part of my late teens/early adulthood thinking that an astigmatism was actually “a stigmatism” which really isn’t anything at all.  I feel like optometrists should be more clear about that.  I mean, how many people are wandering around like me not knowing the “a” is part of the word, and looking like an idiot whenever they have to say it? (which is, you know so often)

But anytime I can avoid looking like an idiot I try to.

Moving on…

Do you want to know something really awesome about being petite?

Little boy clothes.

As in, you can wear them.

I think it has something to do with being tiny, and the general flat-chestedness.
Anyways, it means you can buy a gingham shirt from Gap kids and only pay 17.50 for it.  And also, this boyfriend blazer… yeah, it’s actually a little boy’s blazer.  Thrifted.  Boo-ya.

Most of the time it’s way more expensive to dress petite.

So if I can fit into something a child would wear for cheaper, I’ll take it.

Plus, you know, when I get tired of wearing them, I can just hand them down to my sons.

I’m sure they’re going to loooooove that.

“Hi, I’m Carter.  I wear hand-me-downs from my mom.”

  1. Love the outfit! So jealous that you can shop for cheaper in the kids’ section.

And I think your kids would be lucky to receive your hand-me-downs… even if you’re a girl.

That’s funny because I bought a blue & white gingham shirt for my son last spring from Crazy8 and he hates it and won’t wear it.
But one day I noticed that his shoes fit me so then I thought maybe I should try that shirt and sure enough now I have new shirt. He’s only 12.

  5. Hmmm . . . my husband is an optometrist. I’ll have to tell him to be clear on the stygmatism/astygmitisym thing. Anyway, cute outfit. I, too, am petite and flat chested and can wear children’s clothing! I never thought about the benefits of passing my clothes down to my children! :)

I think that’s the exact shirt on Jean from Extra Petite (http://www.extrapetite.com/2012/01/style-in-suitcase-part-3-black-browns.html). Very cute!

Also, contacts aren’t that bad. The whole touching your eye thing starts to feel totally normal after a month or two :)

  9. LMAO this whole post. Seriously. I also felt a fool for thinking that the “a” was separate from astigmatism. And, I am petite and flat chested and wear my oldest son’s shirts sometimes . . . and he hates it. Luckily, you look adorbs. Love the glasses and gingham! Feel better soon!

I love my boys’ buttondowns as well. They can be boxy, but that’s easy to deal with. I like that you added pearls and a periwinkle skirt. :)

  12. Little boy clothes or not, you still look as pretty as ever! I adore the gingham shirt :)

I wear contacts and they are actually very comfy! I don’t feel that I wear them, so I’m not constantly rubbing my eyes. I sometimes even forget to take them out at night, that’s how natural they feel :) My optician gave me a free pair to try them. I don’t know about yours but If you would ever consider switching to contacts…

    Have a great week! x

I am very blind, and I have a(nospace)stigmatism in both my eyes :). I wear either my glasses or my contacts ALLTHETIME. You look super cute in your glasses, you should wear them more often. And I love them paired with this outfit.

my almost 15 year old son wore a belt of mine to school last week and he got a ton of compliments on it. I was so shocked when he told me that he told everyone that it was mine – too funny! I guess he is secure in his “manhood” :)

The glasses with that ‘little boy chic’ outfit are really interesting – it looks great on you! And, when it comes to contacts – I used to live in mortal fear of having to touch my eyes *with something on my fingers*. Turns out, it’s the easiest thing once you get used to it – I only wear my glasses in the airplane now, or when I’ve run out of contacts (which a procrastinator like myself occasionally does…like last week). I think it’s easier to come up with good outfits without having to match my glasses to them ;-)

Love this outfit and post! Although I am a bit taller (5′ 4″), I still am pretty tiny. I like to tell people that my bones are small…and it’s true! I shop in the children’s shoe section regularly! I love buying bball shorts in the little boys section. I will have to check them out for more fun clothes…I’m pretty sure all the size 18 boys clothes would be too big on me so I’ll have plenty of options! =)
