my mother’s closet.

Blouse: Christopher and Banks (thrifted) Pants: The Loft.  Undershirt/ Necklace/ Earrings: Ross.  Shoes: Payless.  Turquoise Ring: Target.

If my “store” is the Loft, then my mom’s is Christopher and Banks.  Her closet is chock-full of lovelies with that C & B label.  We like to tease her about it being a Grandma store, but the truth is, my mom is one cute Grandma, so it doesn’t really matter.  But the other day when I was perusing the newest Goodwill to open here in Mesa, (which by the way, is beyond fabulously stocked to the brim with ah-mazing treasures) this awesome shirt practically called out to me.  What can I say, I’m attracted to polka dots.  They find me.  Not to mention the fact that it was sheer and the best kind of drapey as well, never mind the fact that it was a large.  I pulled it off the rack, ran my fingers across it and decided that I could definitely find a way to make it work for me.  Then I looked at the tag.  Christopher and Banks.  “Mom is going to be so proud,” I thought to myself and placed it in the cart.

So how do you make a shirt that’s 4 sizes too large fit?  You turn it into a wrapped shirt, that’ how.  I’ve actually done this before, with one of my maternity dresses that I wanted to wear when I ahem, wasn’t bump bearing.  (But don’t tell anyone, its a secret.  Oh, whoops.)  Basically, you leave the shirt or dress unbuttoned, and pull it across one side and then the other and pin each side in place with a safety pin.  (where you can’t see it of course.)  It’s a very technical process ladies.  Only the most skilled of us should attempt it.  But seriously, you should give it a try, it really dolls up a shirt and opens up a lot more possibilities at the thrift store.

I’m in Mesa as well…can I ask the cross streets of the new Goodwill? I haven’t heard there’s a new one & I don’t really like the one down the street from me.

The shirt is super cute and you’d never be able to tell it’s too big or that you “fixed” it.
