Skirt: The Loft ($30). Shirt: H&M ($12). Shoes: Target ($3.68). Brooch: The Loft ($4) Earrings: Vintage ($2) Belt: Doweast Basics ($3) |
Total outfit cost: $54.68
When I first spotted this skirt at the Loft, I about died. Black and white giraffe print, yes please. The price tag? $79. Nevermind. So I did what Cori does. I waited. And a few weeks later that baby went on sale, the same day that all clearance items were an additional 40% off. So how much did I spend on this eighty dollar skirt? Thirty bucks.
You don’t have to buy only clothes that were loved by a previous owner to dress on a dime. But there’s a trick.
I call it the two P’s.
Patient and Picky
1. Patience. Getting a good deal takes a lot of work. If you think that every time you walk into a store you’re going to walk back out with some phenomenal piece that you got for a steal, you’re going to give up on discount shopping real fast. You have to learn how to dig, sort through the clearance section, and watch your stores. The first thing I would suggest is to sign up for the email updates at a store you love. My store of choice is, of course The Loft. I love their clothes, they actually fit me (miraculously) and they have sales that are BANANAS! So when they have a 50% off all their clearance sale, I’m notified via email, and that’s when I really score. But even with email notification, you’re still going to have to shop often. If you have one bummer experience, go back, eventually you will find something fantastic for super cheap, and it’ll be worth it.
2. Picky. The key with bargain shopping (and this goes for all stores thrift and new alike) is to shop often, but don’t buy a lot. I shop all the time, but I only buy occasionally. Be picky. Only buy something you really love, that really looks good on you and fits your personal style. It doesn’t matter how cheap it is, it’s too expensive if it doesn’t make you feel fabulous.
So get out there and start shopping!

Thanks for hosting the links. I’ve had fun looking through the outfits that everyone posted. I love the skirt are wearing in the picture, and also the way you accessorized with the purple shoes and brooch. I have trouble pulling accessories together, so I’m always looking for ideas.
