guest post: along abbey road.

I’m so excited to hand the reigns off to Abbey today.  New mom, and fellow Loft addict, she’s cute and spunky and I know you will love her.  Take it away girly!

Hello, La Vie Petite-ers! My name is Abbey. I have a little place on the interwebs called Along Abbey Road, where I blog about personal style, fashion, beauty, DIY projects, motherhood, and all the ridiculous in-between. Majority of the time I can be found gushing about my 9-month old burning chub of love, Luke. Oh, and 90% of my wardrobe is from LOFT (including the outfit above), so obviously Cori and I share a powerful bond that revolves around all things LOFT and I feel right at home here!

Being a first-time mama, I have experienced a lot of new things. One of the biggest changes? My style. Gone are the days of dry-clean-only fabrics and dangly accessories. Instead, functional flats and cotton tees in various shapes and prints have become my best friend.
Here are my tips and tricks for maintaining great mama style, while juggling all the jobs and tasks of motherhood:
  • Always opt for a print in a shirt. It is an easy way to add interest to your outfit without having to heavily accessorize. My go-to prints are stripes and polka dots. Half of my closet is filled with printed cotton tees because they are comfy and spit-up/sticky hands/snot rag friendly. It happens. At least you can still feel somewhat stylish knowing that wad of snot sits upon a great polka dot slub tee.
  • Pointy flats and oxfords are amazing flat shoes that look phenomenally stylish. They pair well with basic denim or a flirty skirt or dress.
  • Speaking of denim, try a pair of colored skinny jeans or whatever cut flatters your body the most. It is another easy way to add great style to an easy, effortless outfit.
  • So you’ve had to say your temporary goodbyes to those fabulous accessories that could result in ripped ear lobes or choking. No problem! Trade out those 4 inch earrings for a great bangle bracelet and add a chunky scarf instead of a chunky necklace. Hey, look — those bangles double as toys!
  •  Three days of not washing your hair happens, and I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve even gone almost a full week. True story. Good thing dry shampoo is the quick fix for not having time to wash your hair for multiple days (thank my lucky mommy stars). I even find that it gives my hair added volume, which styles better! Yes, please.
  • My favorite way to top off a sassy mama look is lipstick. Red or plum is fabulous for going for a bold fall look, but a soft pink always feel feminine and gives you a little something extra if you are not one for bright hues.
So there you have my secrets to for being an on-trend mom, along with looking to Cori for style inspiration (she is in the mama style blogger hall of fame in my book). Hope you enjoyed it! Be sure to come by and say hello on my blog to read up on more bits of style and motherhood!
