5 nighttime products for better skin and hair.

I feel like when I was young I paid almost no attention to the health of my skin, and it still looked good, because I was in my 20’s.  Seriously, I washed my face with hand soap (wish I was kidding), moisturized with body lotion, I wore cheap makeup and often went to bed without washing my face at all.  I know, I KNOW… But something happened toward the end 20s.  Suddenly my skin didn’t look quite as peachy, and suddenly I started to care about what I was using  on it.

I wish I had taken better care of my skin when I was younger, but if wishes were fishes right?

Anyway, I’ve learned in the last few years that there are some really amazing products for skin and hair that actually do make a huge difference, not only for their appearance, but also for their health.

Today I want to share 5 nighttime products I’ve added to my regiment for better skin and hair, why I’ve added them, and the improvements I’ve seen.

1. Tula purifying probiotic cleanser.  I used to think that choosing a good cleanser wasn’t that important, (it’s all soap right?) but I’ve learned mostly from trial and error that it isn’t true.  Finding a good cleanser is really important for skin health.  I love this Tula cleanser because it’s really gentle, but it cleans deep in my pores and removes my eye make-up easily.  It also doesn’t strip all the moisture from my skin.  My face never feels tight after I use it. It’s also got all kinds of natural antioxidants and probiotics to protect skin against harmful bacteria.  My skin looked brighter and clearer within a few days of using it.

2. Tula illuminating face serum.  I blogged about this product last year, and it’s still one of my favorites.  I use it morning and night after I cleanse but before I moisturize.  I call it magic serum, because it brightens and tightens my skin, and makes me look and feel all glowy. It’s also evened out my skin tone.  Like all Tula products it’s got probiotic technology as well as a bunch of other good stuff for cell regeneration and radiance.

3. Tula Hydrating day and night cream.  This stuff is the best moisturizer ever.  I use it morning and night, and I love it because it’s not greasy or chalky, it’s lightweight and it’s made my skin look brighter and tighter.

4. Branche Silk Sleep pillow.  I have a confession, my hair stylist in Seattle told me for years that I should get a silk pillowcase because it was so much better for your hair, but I kind of shrugged it off.  Recently I started hearing about all the awesome benefits of sleeping on silk, so I thought I would give it a try.  Before I even get started on all the skin and hair benefits, can I just say, oh my gosh.  What was I waiting for?!  It is literally the softest most comfortable sleep I’ve ever had.  I feel like a crazy pillowcase evangelist.  “Everyone needs a silk pillowcase!”  It’s like sleeping on an actual cloud.  But before I go on and on about how nice it feels, it’s also really, really good for your skin and hair.  Here’s what it does: (I’m taking this right from Branche’s website because there are so many benefits to sleeping on a silk pillowcase, and I found it fascinating so I thought you might too.)

Skin Benefits:

PREVENT WRINKLES. Allows skin to glide, helping to avoid the development of sleep lines, and if they are shallow enough, helps to let previous ones heal and regenerate.

HYDRATE & NOURISH YOUR SKIN.  Silk’s 18 Amino Acids resemble those in our skin, creating a perfect synergy and balanced pH that help to increase skin hydration. Hydrated skin is more plump, resilient, and bounces back, being less likely to develop lines and wrinkles.

INCREASE EFFICACY of SKINCARE PRODUCTS.  Silk enhances absorption of your beauty products.

SMOOTHER SKIN.  Natural tossing and sleep movements over silk, polish skin’s epidermis, resulting in smoother skin.

NATURALLY HYPOALLERGENIC.  No mites, mold or fungus, alleviates associated skin conditions.

Hair Benefits:

SILKIER HAIR.  Silk doesn’t rob your hair of its natural oils, making for more hydrated and healthier hair.

LESS HAIR BREAKAGE and HAIR LOSS.  The slippery surface lets hair glide across the pillow, avoiding unnecessary hair loss due to breakage caused by cotton, your mane will be thicker and fuller.

SHINIER HAIR. When you sleep on a silk pillowcase your natural tossing and sleep movements smooth the cuticle layer, resulting in smoother, shinier hair.

BLOWOUTS LAST LONGER. Charmeuse Case allows hair to glide, so blowouts & hairstyles last longer. Reduces damage caused by daily styling, and frees up valuable time.

LESS FRIZZ NO MORE TANGLES.Curls remain curls.

FULLER EYELASHES.  Whereas, cotton can tug and crease your eyelashes, Charmeuse Case helps to keep lashes healthier. Especially helpful in extending the life of extensions.

5.Branche silk sleep masque.  You know what I didn’t understand when I was younger?  How important sleep is for the health of your skin.  Good deep sleep is required for optimal melatonin production, which is a skin protecting antioxidant.  The best way to get good deep sleep is in a pitch black room.  Adding a silk sleep masque protects your delicate eye area while helping to create the best deep sleep situation.  Plus this masque is super soft and comfortable.  There is no way I would keep it on if it wasn’t.  (Although my husband has been mocking me senseless about wearing it. I just tell him I need my beauty sleep, literally.)

So there you have it!  My 5 nighttime products for better skin and hair!  Do you have any products you love?  Have you tried sleeping with a silk pillowcase?
